Community Service Workers guide members of the community towards the services and assistance they require while facing personal or social problems. CSWs assess and meet a client’s physical, medical, emotional and behavioral support needs. Community Service Worker will understand the diversity of community work practice, helping processes, human development and life skills methodology. Students will practice with families and individuals, understand the human health model, and explore research methods. Workers refer clients to residential, in-patient, detoxification and/or mental health programs, and may accompany clients to treatment programs if needed.
CSW works deal with clients from a range of age groups suffering from various social and emotional issues. You deal with individual and community issues of homelessness, poverty, substance abuse, mental health concerns, oppression, crisis and other determinants of health and social justice.
What is an Addiction Worker.
As an Addiction Worker you will apply the principles of addiction, pharmacology and structured relapse prevention planning. Addiction Worker will access , give motivational interviewing and treatment planning with a strong professional ethics.
You will do 1-2-1 counselling. Coverage includes an in-depth s family dynamics and addiction as well as special populations: Natives and other ethnic/cultural groups, youth, sexual minorities, elderly, concurrent disorders, homeless, gender (women), crime, HIV/AIDS and suicidal clients.
Depending on the workplace, Community Service Workers can have any number of additional duties.
- prepare intake reports
- interview clients to determine their needs
- refer clients to appropriate services
- provide crisis intervention when necessary
- counsel clients to determine their progress
- resolve any difficulties or problems they may be having.
